Dennis Rodman Reacts To Estranged Daughter Trinity Becoming The Highest-Paid Women's Soccer Player In The World

Dennis Rodman shared his reaction to his daughter, Trinity Rodman, becoming the highest-paid women’s soccer player in the world after signing a three year contract with the Washington Spirit on Thursday, January 23.

The NBA legend, who is known to have a fraught relationship with his daughter, posted the news to his Instagram Story alongside the lyrics to Drake and Nicki Minaj’s song “Make Me Proud.” He also wrote, “History.”

With the new contract, 23-year-old Trinity will remain at the club for three years.

ESPN reports that Trinity’s annual salary will amount to over $2 million including bonuses, making her the highest-paid player in league history, and the highest-paid female player in the world. Before Trinity’s contract was finalized, Barcelona’s Aitana Bonmati was the highest-paid female soccer player.

“It feels amazing, I’m very happy, I’m very blessed,” Trinity said after the contract was finalized. “I think it’s a monumental and game-changing moment right now. I can’t even describe in words what it feels like. Obviously, everyone’s going to have their different thoughts and opinions about it, but I’ve never really cared. So, that doesn’t change anything for me.

“I’ve always had a vision of kind of an idea of what I want my legacy to be and continue to be. For me, we’re doing that, with help obviously, and I’m so grateful for that. But yeah, I think this is just opening up opportunities for American girls with dreams, and I’m one and was one of them, and so I’m very grateful about that.”

Trinity, who also plays for the US national team, was picked by the Washington Spirit in the 2021 NWSL Draft, making her the leagues youngest ever draftee at the time.

Trinity was born in 2002 to Dennis Rodman and Michelle Moyer, who also share an older son, 24-year-old DJ Rodman. Trinity says she has an estranged relationship with her father and was primarily raised by her mother.

“He’s not a dad,” she said on a December 2024 episode of the Call Her Daddy podcast. “Maybe by blood, but nothing else. Hearing his voice is painful.”

“I think he’s an extremely selfish human being,” she said. “I think everything has always been about him.” However, Trinity noted that her father has his own trauma and “never understood that people could actually just want to be around him and just want to make him happy.”

In response to Trinity’s statements on Alex Cooper’s podcast, Dennis addressed his daughter in a since-deleted Instagram post. “Sorry I wasn’t the Dad you wanted me to be but either way I still tried and I still Try and Never will Stop,” he wrote.  “I will keep trying even when you’re being told as an adult not to respond to my phone calls. I will try even when it’s difficult and if it takes a long time.”

“I’m always here and tell you all the time—rather it’s your voice or voicemail—how proud I am,” he continued. “I always had one wish and it was I wish my kids would call me and come see me. Hopefully one day I can get that…You see me calling, I’m still here.”
