Europa League official line-ups: Roma vs. VfB Stuttgart
Roma cannot count on their January signings in the Europa League against VfB Stuttgart, so Evan Ferguson and Matias Soulé lead the way.
It kicks off at the Stadio Olimpico in Rome at 20.00 GMT (21.00 CET).
This represents a head-to-head for position, as both teams are on 12 points going into the penultimate round of the league phase.
They sit in ninth and 10th spot, just one point behind the top eight, so direct access to the Round of 16 is still well within reach.
Both have also won three on the bounce in the Europa League.
Roma had a perfect debut for new buy Donyell Malen, who scored in Sunday’s 2-0 victory away to Torino, but he and Robinio Vaz are ineligible for this tournament.
Mario Hermoso, Artem Dovbyk, Stephan El Shaarawy and Angelino are out injured, while there is quite a lot of squad rotation too, bringing in Daniele Ghilardi, Kostas Tsimikas, Jan Ziolkowski and Niccolò Pisilli.
Soulé and Lorenzo Pellegrini therefore provide support for Ferguson, whose future at the club remains in doubt.
Stuttgart have Bilal El Khannouss sitting out a one-match ban, with Dan-Axel Zagadou, Tiago Tomas, Jeremy Arevalo and Noah Darvich injured.
Players like Pascal Stenzel, Stefan Drlkaca, Nikolas Nartey, Ameen Al-Dakhil and Justin Diehl are cup-tied.
There were also major concerns over Angelo Stiller, whose scans were clear, but is not even on the bench.
Chris Fuhrich is on fine form, but Deniz Undav is preferred to Ermedin Demirovic upfront.
This team is unbeaten in seven competitive games, but was held to a 1-1 draw by Union Berlin at the weekend.
