Tottenham interest flatters 46-year-old manager but Man United is likely priority
Tottenham Hotspur have settled on their top managerial target to replace Thomas Frank at the end of the season.
Reports indicate that Frank is not in any immediate danger of being sacked, with the Spurs hierarchy ready to assess the Dane’s work at the end of the campaign.
However, that does not mean that the Lilywhites are not making contingency plans. Several managers have been mooted as potential Frank replacements over recent weeks.
It emerged on Tuesday that Marseille’s Roberto De Zerbi is also on Tottenham’s wishlist, but the Italian is also admired by Man United.
Roberto De Zerbi flattered by Tottenham links
TEAMtalk claim that Spurs have now compiled a managerial shortlist for a potential summer change, and De Zerbi’s name is right at the top of it.
The 46-year-old has ‘huge admirers’ within the Tottenham hierarchy, and his progressive style of play, emphasising possession and high pressing, is said to align with the club’s vision for their future.
It is suggested that De Zerbi would be open to leaving Marseille at the end of the season, as he believes he may have taken the Ligue 1 side as far as he can.
However, Tottenham Hotspur are acutely aware that it will face competition for the former Brighton boss’s services, and one source close to the situation has claimed that Man United would be his preferred destination.
The source told the publication about De Zerbi: “He’s flattered by Tottenham’s interest, but United would likely be priority.”
Which other managers are on Spurs’ shortlist?
Mauricio Pochettino and Marco Silva are both thought to be on Tottenham’s radar, with both of their contracts set to run out next summer.
Another man who will be a free agent next summer is Oliver Glasner, who is also rated very highly by the Spurs hierarchy.
Over the last few days, we have also heard that Tottenham are admirers of Enzo Marseca, who recently parted ways with Chelsea.
