Maguire delivers 14-word message to Amorim after Man Utd sacking

Manchester United parted ways with manager Ruben Amorim after the 1-1 Premier League draw against Leeds United at Elland Road.

The Red Devils sit three points behind fourth-placed Liverpool in the standings, but the hierarchy have ‘reluctantly‘ opted for a change.

Under-18s coach Darren Fletcher has been placed on interim charge for the upcoming game against Burnley on Wednesday night.

A number of United players thanked Amorim for his contribution, and defender Harry Maguire was one of those to post an Instagram story.

Maguire broke his silence with a 14-word message which read: “Thank you for everything boss. I wish you all the best in the future.”

Maguire was initially out of contention for a starting role when Amorim took charge in November 2024. However, the Englishman quickly won over the manager’s confidence.

Like Casemiro in midfield, the centre-back became a mainstay in the middle of the back three during the final phase of last season. Amorim publicly admitted that he is perfect for the position.

The 32-year-old also played a key part during the early phase of the current season before his hamstring injury at Tottenham Hotspur. The manager still spoke fondly about him in several pressers.

Amorim personally said that he would like to keep Maguire beyond his current deal expiring in June.

The Red Devils would obviously require more defensive quality and depth if they return to European football next term.

There is now a major question mark over Maguire’s United future, given that Amorim has been relieved of his duties.

Maguire has been working on the grass as he steps up his recovery, and could make his comeback this month.
