Wildcard entry: Man United make surprise move for Greek midfielder
Manchester United have added a new name to their transfer shortlist to bolster their midfield.
According to the Daily Mail, Man United scouts are keeping a close eye on Olympiacos midfielder Christos Mouzakitis.
Despite turning just 19 last month, Mouzakitis has already collected seven senior international caps for Greece, a rare feat at such a young age.
Primarily deployed as a defensive midfielder, he has featured in 20 matches across all competitions this season.
Notably, six of those appearances have come in the UEFA Champions League, where he has started each of Olympiacos’ last three games.
His rapid rise has been remarkable, with the youngster amassing 56 first-team appearances since making his senior debut only last season.
Within scouting circles, Mouzakitis is viewed as a high-ceiling talent capable of stepping up to Europe’s elite level in the near future.
That reputation was underlined in 2025 when he claimed the European Golden Boy Web Award.
Despite being very young, he is not afraid to carry the ball forward under pressure
At Old Trafford, sweeping midfield changes are expected when the summer transfer window opens.
Casemiro’s current deal expires in June, with the club unwilling to extend his contract on current terms.
Kobbie Mainoo’s sporadic involvement under manager Ruben Amorim has raised fresh questions about his long-term future at the club.
Manuel Ugarte has failed to adapt to English football and could be moved on this summer.
Last summer, Bruno Fernandes attracted lucrative interest from Saudi Arabia, but the captain chose loyalty over riches.
That may only delay the inevitable, with Saudi clubs expected to return for the Portuguese star in the summer of 2026.
United have already identified Elliot Anderson as a priority midfield target, while Carlos Baleba and Adam Wharton are also firmly on their radar.
As things stand, United are expected to sign at least two new midfielders this summer.
That number could rise further depending on departures and whether the club secure Champions League qualification for next season.
