Christian Eriksen sends message to Tottenham fans amid Thomas Frank sack calls
Christian Eriksen has made a bullish statement about Thomas Frank amid his struggles at Tottenham Hotspur.
Speculation continues to run rife about Spurs identifying potential replacements for Frank, who has failed to impress since taking over from Ange Postecoglou in the summer.
Frank believes he will be afforded time by the Tottenham hierarchy, suggesting that the team’s problems are not a quick fix.
Not everyone on the Spurs board is thought to be convinced by Frank, but a former Tottenham midfielder holds the 52-year-old in very high regard.
Christian Eriksen claims the Tottenham job is not too big for Thomas Frank
Erisken worked with Frank for six months during his short stint at Brentford during the 2021-22 season, and he rates the former Bees boss very highly.
The former Tottenham midfielder is not surprised by the pressure that is now on his compatriot, but he believes that Frank is more than capable of taking the Lilywhites where they want to go.
When asked about the under-fire Spurs boss, Erisken told The Times: “First of all, he definitely has the capabilities to manage a big club. To build Brentford up and to keep that going for a long time, progressing every season, shows his ability. I’ve seen all the Spurs stuff now, turning on him and seeing the results, which is normal; you are in the [big] six, you have to win every game.
“But I’m sure he’s going to change it into his own way and make it something very positive because you have everything you need at Spurs, it’s just about getting it to click. I’m sure Thomas is the right man for it.”
Eriksen admits Spurs need to play with more flair
The Danish coach’s style of football has been a huge cause of distress for Tottenham fans.
In fact, Spurs have posted some of the worst xG scores of any Premier League side this season, and Eriksen has now admitted that the Tottenham faithful are right in wanting to see their team show more attacking purpose and flair.
He added: “The fans want to be entertained in a football way as well, which puts extra pressure on. It’s about winning games, but also how you go into the games. Thomas will read it and see where it goes.
“Often it’s the more defensive teams that win more trophies, let’s say that, but at the same time, that’s not how you go forward at Spurs. You need a bit of flair.”
