Sean Crighton – Good character and a good point
A Spiders comeback, a red card, four goals and drama all over the pitch in an intense post-Christmas Glasgow derby resulted in a ‘good point’ for Sean Crighton.
Partick Thistle had two quick goals in the first half, but Queen’s Park fought hard to claw it back and finish the game 2-2, ending the year with a well earned draw. Seb Drozd used his poaching skills to follow up after Josh Fowler saw his penalty saved, and skipper Euan Murray flew in the air to bury a brilliant header in the closing stages which completed the comeback.
The head coach said: “It was really good character from the group to come back and make sure we got something out of it.
“Ultimately it could be a huge point for us, and against a team that we’ve really struggled against before so I’m happy with that.
“I can’t really fault anybody, I think our attitude’s there. The most pleasing thing for me is, we went 2-0 down quickly away from home against Thistle and we ended up crumbling. Today we never looked like it, which is really good.”
Despite the two goals conceded, the boss was still full of praise for his two centre backs, he also gave a nod to the equaliser goal from Spiders skipper Euen Murray.
He added: “We had 90 seconds of madness for their two goals, then 90 seconds of madness towards the end f the game when we could have conceded – if it wasn’t for Matthew Shiels, I think they’re scoring.
“I get back to it, that commitment side to it, Shielsy has put his body on the line and blocks it. It’s an incredible block.
We’ve lost two goals today, but I think the two of them were absolutely magnificent.
“It’s an unbelievable header from Euan, he’s well in there, he’s putting his commitment in and that’s why he’s the captain of the team.”
The Spiders have suffered only one defeat in their last six games at home in the William Hill Championship, they are hoping to continue getting more points on the board and start off the new year with a run of good form.
“We’re building a wee bit of momentum, that’s the second quarter of the season and we haven’t been beat here.
“I think things are just starting to click, and the squad have given me absolutely everything in 2025, now they need to give me everything in 2026.”
The Spiders first home game of 2026 will be against Forfar Athletic in the KDM Evolution Trophy round of 16 on Tuesday, January 6. The following Saturday, they host St Johnstone however, first in focus is Ayr United next week, where Queen’s drew 0-0 last time out.
