Confirmed Man United XI vs Newcastle: Amorim makes two changes with Fernandes out, Lacey on bench

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has named his starting line-up for today’s Premier League clash against Newcastle United at Old Trafford.

After suffering a narrow 2–1 defeat to Aston Villa last weekend, the Red Devils will be desperate to rediscover momentum in front of their home crowd.

That task is made far tougher by the scale of the challenge, with Amorim forced to navigate the contest without seven senior players.

Bryan Mbeumo, Amad Diallo and Noussair Mazraoui remain away on international duty at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Matthijs de Ligt, Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo are sidelined with injuries.

Captain Bruno Fernandes has joined the growing absentee list after sustaining a hamstring injury in Villa defeat.

Amorim has made two changes to his side that started at the Villa Park.

Senne Lammens has firmly established himself as first-choice and retains his place in goal ahead of Altay Bayindir.

The back three consists of Lisandro Martinez, Ayden Heaven and Luke Shaw.

Yoro has endured a testing few weeks and has been dropped back to the bench.

This has allowed Martinez to make his first start of the 2025-26 season.

Diogo Dalot and Patrick Dorgu start at right and left-wing-back spots, respectively.

Dorgu delivered his best performance of the season last week.

United fans will hope that he continues to build on that display.

The second change comes in midfield, with Casemiro coming in place of Fernandes.

Casemiro is back in contention after serving his one-match suspension and brings experience and steel to the engine room.

Manuel Ugarte partners him once again, earning consecutive starts.

It will be fascinating to see which of the two is entrusted with progressing play, given both are more comfortable anchoring midfield than dictating attacks.

Benjamin Sesko continues to spearhead the attack, supported by Mason Mount and Matheus Cunha operating as dual number tens.

On the bench, Amorim has again turned to youth, with Jack Fletcher, Shea Lacey, Bendito Mantato and Tyler Fredricson all ready to be called upon.

Tyler Fletcher has also got the chance today to make his maiden senior squad appearance.
