9 duels won, 4 recoveries: Amorim has new undroppable in £25m Man Utd star after dazzling display vs Newcastle
Manchester United secured a 1-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League at Old Trafford on Boxing Day.
The Red Devils went into the game on a two-match winless streak and faced a tricky challenge against the Magpies.
However, they rose to the occasion with a slender victory after a sublime volley from Patrick Dorgu to open the scoring.
The Dane’s 24th-minute goal was enough to seal the win for the Red Devils, who have climbed to fifth in the league table.
Prior to the Aston Villa defeat, Dorgu was out-of-favour under manager Ruben Amorim, and made just two starts in 10 matches.
Amorim said that he felt anxiety whenever the Dane had possession and cited his lack of confidence on the ball going forward.
Dorgu has since responded brilliantly with two standout performances. The first against Villa in a losing cause and the second last night.
At Villa Park, Dorgu was the best player on the pitch for the Red Devils. He won an impressive 13 duels and made four ball recoveries.
The 21-year-old also provided an assist for Matheus Cunha. He delivered another peach of a cross, which Cunha should have converted for the equaliser (2-1 loss).
Dorgu was fantastic as a left wing-back against Villa. He showed his versatility against the Magpies, operating from the right wing on Boxing Day.
The youngster was a regular right winger during his final season at Lecce, but his sensational finish yesterday definitely grabbed a lot of attention.
Dorgu himself was surprised at his effort. Aside from his match-winner, he was involved defensively and played a big part in keeping Anthony Gordon quiet.
He won nine duels on the night alongside five clearances and four recoveries.
The £25 million signing has been a revelation in the last two matches for the Red Devils. Dorgu has certainly become a new undroppable under Amorim.
