Savinho vs Omar Marmoush, who should Tottenham Hotspur bid for in January? - Opinion

0 11

Tottenham Hotspur have identified two Manchester City wingers as potential transfer targets, Savinho and Omar Marmoush, but a decision must be made as to which one the club should attempt to sign in January.

It is no secret that Tottenham Hotspur need a new left winger. This fact has been known since the start of the season and continues to grow all the more evident with each passing game.

The solution could lie in a Brazilian who has struggled for starts at his current club. Savinho was wanted by Thomas Frank last summer, and despite him signing a new contract, the 21-year-old could become available next month.

However, Spurs have turned their attention to Omar Marmoush, another Man City talent who struggled to become a regular starter under Pep Guardiola.

What Savinho and Omar Marmoush would offer Tottenham

Savinho has reached 10 assists the past two seasons in La Liga and the Premier League respectively. He almost always plays as a winger and has the ability to be effective on either flank.

Marmoush has been less of a creator at City, but he is more of a threat in front of goal. While Savinho has very few goals to his name since moving to the Premier League, the Egyptian bagged seven in 16 appearances during the second half of last season.

Both players are quick, skilful and unpredictable and Marmoush can also be used as a central striker. However, he turns 27 in February, while Savinho is still only 21. This means Tottenham’s original transfer target will keep his pace for longer, and he could have a higher ceiling for development.

Which player should Spurs sign?

Savinho and Marmoush would both be good signings at Tottenham, but Savinho possesses that creative flair which Spurs so desperately need.

The problem with Tottenham so often is that there is no imagination in the team and this is where the transfer target of last summer will be useful. Savinho will play mostly on the left and this means he will focus more on chance creation rather than looking to cut inside.

It would also be useful to have a goalscoring winger like Marmoush, but if he played well, there would always be the temptation to move him to the centre-forward position. Thomas Frank has shown that he prefers to play Richarlison and Mathys Tel up front instead of on the wing, and the same could happen with Marmoush, meaning the left wing problem remains.

The 26-year-old could score fewer goals at Tottenham because they are a less creative team than Man City. Whereas, Savinho would be the player crafting chances, and with more years to develop into the ultimate winger, he is still the one Spurs should look to sign up in January.
