"Under wraps": Man Utd now make AFCON decision on Amad, Mbeumo & Mazraoui for Bournemouth game

0 13

Manchester United entertain Bournemouth in Monday’s Premier League clash at Old Trafford.

Ahead of the game, manager Ruben Amorim has acknowledged that he is unsure about the availability of three players, who are due to report for Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) duty.

As per FIFA’s update, clubs need to mandatorily release players participating in the tournament on December 15, the same day when United are scheduled to host the Cherries.

Amad Diallo, Bryan Mbeumo and Noussair Mazraoui will have to report with the Ivory Coast, Cameroon and Morocco as a result, but United are speaking with the respective federations.

Ahead of Monday’s showdown, United have opted to keep the decision ‘under wraps’ and won’t disclose further team news, according to The Sun journalist Samuel Luckhurst.

Man Utd trio should be available vs Bournemouth

AFCON does not start until December 21, when Morocco host Comoros. The 15th has been set as the deadline to release players, but United should find a resolution for the trio.

With just a 24-hour delay, the Red Devils should be able to convince the respective federations.

Amad and Mbeumo have been undisputed starters when available for selection. They should feature in the right wing-back and right number 10 positions respectively against the Cherries.

Mbeumo ended his scoreless streak against Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has three goals and four assists from 10 meetings against the Cherries and should relish the contest at Old Trafford.

Mazraoui has started as the right centre-back for the Red Devils in the last two outings. He was not at his best against Wolves, with just two duels won, and could make way for Leny Yoro tomorrow.

Yoro has played second fiddle to Ayden Heaven in the middle of the back three recently, but the duo could start together as Amorim prepares to cope with Mazraoui’s absence for several weeks.

Centre-back duo Harry Maguire and Matthijs de Ligt are still injured with no return dates.
