Bo Bichette-Red Sox Possibility Feels More Real After New Report
Bo Bichette to the Boston Red Sox is a narrative gaining traction. The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon talked this week about Bichette in Boston as an alternative to Alex Bregman.
On Sunday, USA Today’s MLB insider Bob Nightengale continued the Bichette-Boston buzz by suggesting that Kyle Tucker’s decision could impact the ordeal.
Nightengale said that Tucker landing in Toronto would likely mean the end of Bichette’s Blue Jays tenure, which could lead him to the Red Sox.
“The Blue Jays have made it no secret that they want Tucker, but found it comical that so much was made about Tucker’s visit to their spring facility in Dunedin considering it’s less than a 30-minute drive from Tucker’s home in Tampa,” Nightengale wrote.
“Tucker, who doesn’t have to be the primary star with Vladimir Guerrero entrenched as the face of the Blue Jays, could be the perfect fit. George Springer’s contract expires in a year and starter Kevin Gausman’s salary also comes off the books. If Tucker signs in Toronto, it would all but officially end Bo Bichette’s tenure north of the border, where he could wind up in Boston.”
Given Bichette’s youth (27) and star power, it’s sort of surprising that more people haven’t been talking about a potential Red Sox deal until recently. Maybe it’s because most fans and analysts have been assuming that Bichette will return to the Blue Jays, and that there’s little room for another outcome.
Nightengale’s reporting creates the feeling that Bichette to Boston is a real possibility, especially because the Blue Jays are reportedly very high on Tucker.
Fans have been assuming that the “big bat” headed to Boston will be one (or two) of Bregman, Pete Alonso, or Kyle Schwarber. Not enough attention has been paid to the possibility of Bichette, who is younger than all of those guys and capable of playing multiple infield positions.
