Red Sox Free Agent Target Predicted To Sign With Phillies
The Boston Red Sox are among the most powerful suitors for free-agent slugger Kyle Schwarber, according to multiple sources. Schwarber hit 56 homers for the Philadelphia Phillies in 2025, finishing second in National League MVP voting behind Los Angeles Dodgers megastar Shohei Ohtani.
Schwarber’s 2021 stint with the Red Sox, though brief, left an impression. Acquired midseason that year from the Washington Nationals, Schwarber hit .291 with seven home runs and 18 RBI in 41 games regular season games. In the playoffs, he hit three homers, including an ALCS grand slam.
Since departing for Philadelphia, Schwarber has evolved into a truly elite power threat, but according to Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller, Schwarber won’t end up back in Boston this winter.
Miller predicted on Sunday that Schwarber will re-sign with the Phillies this offseason, noting that Philadelphia will take care of business with Schwarber during Winter Meetings.
“They moved quickly to re-sign Aaron Nola two winters ago, and it’s a little surprising they didn’t do the same with Schwarber,” Miller wrote. “With each passing day that the deal doesn’t get announced, it becomes a little more realistic that he could end up somewhere else.”
“As such, that’s enough playing around,” Miller continued. “After feeling out his market for a day at the Winter Meetings, the Phillies will give Schwarber either a four-year or five-year deal at around $30M per year and will spend the rest of the winter figuring out more budget-friendly solutions at catcher, outfield and bullpen.”
If Miller’s prediction came true, Red Sox fans might feel ultra-eager for the club to re-sign Alex Bregman and/or sign Pete Alonso ASAP.
