Bruins Urged To Avoid Trading For Canucks Winger
Boston Bruins general manager Don Sweeney has reportedly been seeking scoring reinforcements on the trade market, and according to a new report from RG’s Jimmy Murphy, one of the players Sweeney is eyeing is Vancouver Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood.
“RG has learned through an NHL source close to the situation that two players Sweeney has recently inquired about are Canucks wingers Kiefer Sherwood and Conor Garland,” Murphy wrote on Saturday.
Sherwood, 30, is cheap ($1.5 million cap hit, final year of his deal) and productive, leading the Canucks in goals entering Saturday.
According to FanSided’s Nate Duffett, though, trading for Sherwood is a risk that the Bruins should avoid. Duffett believes that Sherwood’s goal-scoring pace will start to slow down, and that his currently high value is somewhat of an illusion that the Canucks are trying to cash in on.
“If the Bruins are seriously considering trading a first-round pick for Sherwood, it could easily be a waste of draft capital once Sherwood’s 27.9% shooting percentage starts to drop,” Duffett wrote on Sunday.
“There will be a team that wastes a first-round pick on Sherwood between now and the trade deadline and will regret it before the Canucks even make their selection at the draft. Don Sweeney, please don’t let it be the Bruins.”
