Bruins Star Charlie McAvoy Out Indefinitely After Undergoing Surgery
The Boston Bruins will be without Charlie McAvoy for the foreseeable future.
Boston announced on Wednesday that McAvoy will be out indefinitely after having facial surgery. The star defenseman suffered an injury on Saturday after he was struck in the face by a slap shot from Montreal Canadiens defenseman Noah Dobson.
McAvoy went down and needed to be helped off the ice. Now, days later, he underwent surgery, and Bruins head coach Marco Sturm revealed there is no timetable for McAvoy’s return.
“He’s doing good. He’s recovering right now at home, and we still don’t know how long he’s going to be out for,” Sturm said on Wednesday.
McAvoy has recorded 0 goals and 14 assists in 19 games this season and leads the Bruins in time on ice per game. With McAvoy out of the lineup, Boston’s defense features Nikita Zadorov, Hampus Lindholm, and Mason Lohrei on the left side with Henri Jokiharju, Andrew Peeke, and Jonathan Aspirot on the right.
Boston is also without star forwards Elias Lindholm, Viktor Arvidsson, and Casey Mittelstadt due to injuries.
The Bruins are on the road to play the Anaheim Ducks on Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET in the first game of a four-game road trip. Boston is 12-9-0 through their first 21 games and in second place in the Atlantic Division.
