Gattuso leaves three players out of Italy squad for Norway game
Elia Caprile, Sandro Tonali and Riccardo Calafiori won’t even be on the Italy bench for a game against Norway this evening.
Italy CT Gattuso has named his 23-man squad list for a World Cup qualifying fixture against Norway at San Siro. As reported by TMW, the three players left out of the squad are Elia Caprile, Riccardo Calafiori and Sandro Tonali.
Tonali, Calafiori and Caprile unavailable for Italy vs. Norway
Caprile had already been left out for Italy’s game against Moldova on Thursday.
Calafiori has been dealing with a hip injury and didn’t play against Moldova either, while Tonali is on a yellow card, so Gattuso has decided to leave him out to avoid a potential booking that would make him miss the World Cup playoff semifinal in March 2026.
Italy already preparing for World Cup playoff
Italy are practically certain to go through the World Cup playoffs next year, given that only a victory by nine goals against Norway this evening would give them direct qualification for the World Cup.
