Report Rovella accepts he will need surgery and 6 weeks out
Lazio and Italy international midfielder Nicolò Rovella had tried desperately to avoid surgery for a recurring sports hernia issue, but it’s reported he will now go under the knife.
The matter has been dragging on for months, even from last season, and the player resisted proposals from the Lazio medical staff to undergo and operation and resolve it once and for all.
He insisted on focusing his attention on conservative treatment starting on September 21, but the results have been poor and ineffective.
Rovella cannot resist operation any longer
After trying to intensify training work over the last few days, the pain increased again.
According to Sky Sport Italia, Rovella has now accepted there is only one way to get back on the field, and that is a surgical intervention.
The player is expected to have the operation next week and after that he can have a better idea of the recovery timetable.
Rovella is not expected back in action until 2026, as generally this requires six weeks out.
It would be the second surgery to resolve a sports hernia in the Lazio squad, after Mattia Zaccagni used the summer to get his situation resolved in June.
This also means Lazio could make another change to their Serie A squad list of 25 players.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru was cut out to make way for Toma Basic in September, and he could return in place of Rovella during this recovery until January.
