MLB Trade Rumors: Insiders Predict Red Sox To Land This All-Star

The Boston Red Sox continue to be linked to power bats such as Kyle Schwarber and Pete Alonso as the MLB offseason gets underway.

While the Red Sox could use an additional slugger in their 2026 lineup, many have also predicted that Boston will go after a No. 2 starting pitcher to slot in behind ace Garrett Crochet in the spring.

After reportedly coming “close” to acquiring Minnesota Twins All-Star arm Joe Ryan last summer, the Red Sox could be in on the 29-year-old again this winter.

MassLive’s Christopher Smith and Sean McAdam both predicted on Monday that Boston will trade for Ryan this offseason.

“Breslow will land starter Joe Ryan from the Twins after failing to get a deal completed at the trade deadline. Breslow needed an ace last offseason and Garrett Crochet was the obvious target. He needs a No. 2 starter this offseason and Ryan seems like the most likely target,” Smith wrote.

Furthermore, both McAdam and Smith have Crochet, Ryan and Brayan Bello headlining the team’s “Opening Day rotation” next spring, with the pair of insiders having right-hander Kutter Crawford as a member of the group as well.

Ryan made his first All-Star team in 2025 and finished the year 13-10 with a career-best 3.42 ERA, as well as a 1.03 WHIP and 194 strikeouts across 171 innings pitched.
