Tottenham fans may be concerned by referee choice for London derby against Chelsea
The officials for the London derby at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium have now been announced, and his record will concern Spurs fans.
After being dumped out of the Carabao Cup by Newcastle on Wednesday, Spurs now return to Premier League action, with London rivals Chelsea set to visit N17.
While Wilson Odobert and Guglielmo Vicario could be fit for Tottenham, Thomas Frank’s men still have double-digit injury absentees.
That, combined with the Lilywhites’ poor form at home, is perhaps why Opta’s Supercomputer considers Chelsea the favourites over Spurs for Saturday’s clash.
Who will be officiating Tottenham’s clash against Chelsea?
Spurs have a poor recod against the West London club of late, and that is something that they will want to put right.
The Lilywhites have not won at home in the Premier League since the opening weekend against Burnley, and they will not be too pleased to hear who will be officiating tomorrow’s clash.
The Premier League have confirmed that Jarred Gillett will be refereeing the London derby while Tim Wood and Wade Smith will be his assistants.
Sam Barrott will be the fourth official, while the VAR will be Craig Pawson, who will be assisted by Adrian Holmes.
Jarred Gillett’s record against Spurs does not make for pretty reading
Jarred Gillett has officiated 11 Tottenham matches in the Premier League, out of which the North Londoners have won six and lost five.
Spurs are the team he has given the most yellow cards to by a long margin, with Gillett having handed out 27 bookings to Tottenham players in those eleven matches.
The likes of Joao Palhinha may thus have to be careful on Saturday, with Gillett not being shy of reaching for his pocket against Spurs.
