"He is not going": Amorim now confirms "really good" United star will miss Nottingham Forest game

0 3

Manchester United take on Nottingham Forest at City Ground in Saturday’s Premier League clash.

The Red Devils have won three league games on the bounce and will be aiming to extend the streak against Sean Dyche’s side on the road this weekend.

Ahead of the encounter, centre-back Lisandro Martinez has returned to first-team training after an extended eight month lay-off with a serious knee injury.

Speaking in today’s press conference, manager Ruben Amorim said that Martinez is ‘really good’ at the moment, but he won’t be in the matchday squad to face the Tricky Trees.

He told reporters (via Manutd.com): “He [Martinez] wants to go to this one, he is not going to this one, he is going to take time.

“He started training with us but we had to change some things in the exercise for him, so slowly he is going to get better.

“He is really good, he is really good, and he gives us that edge in every training session and that is also really good for us.”

The manager added that he has no idea about Harry Maguire’s injury situation, but the rest of the squad are fit for the game.

He added: “The rest of the guys, we have one more day [of training], I don’t know about Harry Maguire. I think the rest is fit.”

United had a slow start to the campaign with seven points from their opening six matches, and the pressure was mounting on Amorim.

The Red Devils have since responded with victories over Sunderland, Liverpool and Brighton & Hove Albion to climb up the standings.

The club are presently just one point behind the top four and could jump into the Champions League spots with a fourth-straight victory.

It won’t be an easy challenge for the Mancunian giants, given Dyche’s teams are generally strong defensively and like to counter-attack.

Dyche’s philosophy matches with Forest’s former playing style under Nuno Espirito Santo, and it won’t be a straightforward game for United.

United have lost their last three meetings against Forest, and will be looking to end the dreadful run with a victory at City Ground on Saturday.

Martinez won’t be involved in the game. It appears the right decision as he needs to build up his match fitness after a lengthy injury lay-off.

We won’t be surprised if Martinez does not feature against Tottenham Hotspur either. He could make his comeback after the international break.

Maguire, on the other hand, could still make Saturday’s trip.

Amorim previously made a similar comment on Noussair Mazraoui before the Liverpool game, but the Moroccan was named in the matchday squad.
