Red Sox Reportedly Re-Sign Promising Pitching Prospect
While the World Series continues between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays this week, the Boston Red Sox are quietly working on their roster and organizational depth before the offseason kicks into high gear.
After recently signing their first free agent of the offseason in catcher Jason Delay, the Red Sox made another move by re-signing pitching prospect Eduardo Rivera, Alex Speier of The Boston Globe reported on Tuesday.
Rivera, 22, is a tall left-handed pitcher with good velocity. He split 2025 between High-A and Double-A, going 4-6 with a 2.48 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, 108 strikeouts and 46 walks in 87 innings.
That marked a big step forward for Rivera, who struggled with his consistency during his first few Minor League seasons but now appears to be fulfilling his potential.
If he continues progressing, Rivera has the potential to be a depth piece for Boston next year and could make his MLB debut. He’s eligible for the Rule 5 Draft in December, however, so the Red Sox could lose him if another team selects him.
This year was Rivera’s second season in the Boston organization. He started his professional career with the Athletics after they took him in the 11th round of the 2021 MLB Draft before joining the Red Sox organization last year.
Time will tell where Rivera ends up this winter. Regardless of where he lands, he’ll look to build on his strong 2025 next year and potentially work his way up to the Majors.
