Former Patriots Center Shares High Praise For Drake Maye
Damien Woody, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, believes Drake Maye is on the cusp of being an elite quarterback.
The Patriots selected Maye third overall in the 2024 NFL Draft, and he has led New England to a 6-2 start.
After another solid outing in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns, Woody called Maye the best quarterback from the 2024 NFL Draft and a top-five quarterback in the NFL already.
“Yes, Drake Maye is the best from that outstanding class,” Woody said on “Get Up” on ESPN on Monday. “I’ve been on this show for weeks saying Drake Maye is playing like a top-five quarterback, and he is absolutely doing that right now. That Cleveland Browns defense going into the game, you could make a case that’s the best defense in the National Football League, and all Drake Maye did was just be surgical against that Cleveland Browns defense.
“Listen, Drake Maye has the second-highest completion percentage in NFL history through eight games, only trailing Drew Brees. The man is doing it with his arm, he’s doing it with his legs. With Mike Vrabel and Josh McDaniels coaching him right now, this man is looking outstanding.”
It’s high praise from Woody, but Maye deserves the credit as the sophomore quarterback has been stellar to begin the season.
In the Patriots’ 32-13 win over the Browns on Sunday, Maye threw for 282 yards, three touchdowns, and one interception, while also rushing for yards.
Maye and the Patriots will host the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday in Week 9.
