Jermain Defoe thinks Tottenham now have ‘one of the top players in the Premier League’
As some Tottenham fans continue to grow increasingly concerned about what they are seeing from the side this season, Jermain Defoe has now weighed in on what he has observed from the Lilywhites this season.
Some of Thomas Frank’s decisions have infuriated Tottenham fans of late, with many of the opinion that he is not being brave enough with his selection decisions.
Spurs have the fourth-worst home record in the Premier League this season, and what is worrying is that they have not shown an ability to create chances consistently.
However, one Tottenham legend is not as alarmed as many supporters are about what he has seen from the North Londoners this season.
Jermain Defoe claims Thomas Frank has made a good start at Tottenham
Defoe is very positive about what he has seen from Frank and Tottenham this season, despite their indifferent results of late.
He suggested that there are clear signs that the Dane is making Spurs a solid outfit and revealed that he liked the club’s summer recruitment.
When asked what he has made of Tottneham this season, the 43-year-old told FlashScore: “(Tottenham) is a club that needs to be in the Champions League. I think Thomas Frank is someone who, again, a good start for him.
“I think the team look really fit and I think he understands his role. Defensively, I think they’ve been good because I think last season, Tottenham, well, last two seasons, they’ve always been one of the most exciting teams to watch. I think now, we’ve seen the difference straight away and the recruitment’s been good.”
Defoe has been particularly impressed with Mohammed Kudus
Frank acknowledged that Tottenham no longer have stars like Harry Kane and Heung-min Son to bail them out, with the Spurs boss hinting that the team is in transition.
However, Tottenham fans may have found a new hero in Mohammed Kudus, and Defoe is thrilled that the Ghanaian is now at N17.
When asked which new signing has most impressed him, he responded: “Kudus for me was probably the main one. I wanted him to come to Tottenham. Obviously, when they got the deal done, it’s amazing, and he’s been one of the top players in the Premier League this year.”
