Bruins Forward Morgan Geekie Reveals Brad Marchand’s Impact On Him

Boston Bruins star forward Morgan Geekie believes he wouldn’t be anywhere near the player he is without Brad Marchand.

Geekie got to play with Marchand for parts of two seasons, as he signed a two-year, $4 million contract with the Bruins in 2023. In his first two seasons with Boston, Geekie set his career-high in points with 39, and then had 57 the following year.

Following Marchand’s return to Boston on Tuesday, Geekie raved about the forward and the impact he had on his career.

“He had a profound impact on how I handled myself last year, at the start of the year, and where I am as a player now,” Geekie said, as seen on NESN’s postgame coverage. “So just his confidence in me will stick with me for the rest of my career.

“You see how much the city and the fans love Marchy, and he’s an ultimate leader, and, you know, obviously, we were sad to see him go. He’s one of the best guys I’ve ever played with. Nothing but good things to say. I’m glad he got that moment for sure.”

Due to the success Geekie had with the Bruins, he ended up signing a six-year, $33 million extension.

As for Marchand, he got a video tribute during the first TV timeout of Tuesday’s game at TD Garden, which got the ex-Bruins captain emotional.

“I’m grateful for what the Bruins did tonight and I’m grateful to the fans,” Marchand said.

Marchand ended up recording two assists in the Panthers’ 4-3 road win over Boston. The Bruins will return to the ice on Thursday at home against the Anaheim Ducks.
