Titans Head Coach Refutes Kayshon Boutte’s Harsh Critique

Mike McCoy isn’t buying what Kayshon Boutte’s selling — not publicly, anyway.

Following the New England Patriots’ win over the Titans last Sunday, Boutte described Tennessee’s defensive backs as “really lazy” when asked about his 39-yard touchdown catch. And Boutte was right, as safety Quandre Diggs was caught flat-footed and left star cornerback L’Jarius Sneed out to try.

Nevertheless, McCoy, who was installed as the Titans’ interim head coach last week, offered a different take during his Monday news conference.

“I don’t agree with it,” McCoy told reporters when asked about Boutte’s remarks. “I think our players have prepared and played hard, week in and week out. I do not agree with it.”

It would’ve been stunning if McCoy had admitted to agreeing with Boutte’s take, as that wouldn’t be conducive to winning over a locker room just a week into holding the job. But the reality is that the Patriots clearly felt they could exploit “lazy” tendencies from Tennessee’s secondary.

New England will look for its fifth win in a row this Sunday when it hosts the Cleveland Browns. The Titans will visit the AFC-leading Indianapolis Colts.
