'Absolutely Crucial': £36.5m Man United star desperate to quit in January

0 3

Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee finds himself staring at an uncertain future at Old Trafford.

Zirkzee sealed a £36.5 million move from Bologna last summer, arriving with high expectations.

He has managed just 82 minutes across four outings, with manager Ruben Amorim preferring Mason Mount and Benjamin Sesko in the number nine role.

According to the Daily Mail, Zirkzee is deeply frustrated at his situation, and sees a move in the January transfer window as absolutely crucial.

With the World Cup scheduled for 2026, he is desperate to reclaim his place in the Netherlands squad.

United are unlikely to sanction his exit

Sesko’s £73.6 million transfer from RB Leipzig has pushed Zirkzee further down the pecking order.

The Red Devils sent Rasmus Hojlund on loan to Napoli and he is ‘almost guaranteed‘ to join them permanently next summer.

With no European football and an early Carabao Cup exit, United have a significantly lighter schedule this season.

It is only after the turn of the year that they will compete in the FA Cup.

It will also be a tough task for manager Ruben Amorim to keep all his players happy.

Zirkzee lacks the pace to thrive as a number nine.

He scored only three Premier League goals in 32 appearances last term.

His link-up play is tidy, but beyond that, he has offered little to justify a starting berth.

Wanting a World Cup call-up is natural, but Zirkzee has simply not done enough to force his way in.

Dutch manager Ronald Koeman is notorious for sticking with his trusted inner circle of players.

United centre-back Matthijs de Ligt has been a standout player this season but the Dutch manager axed him from his recent squad.
