Alongside Lammens, Amorim must now start £87m Man Utd duo vs Sunderland to save his job - opinion
Manchester United have had a slow start to the Premier League season.
They have picked up only seven points from their opening six matches, and the pressure is already on manager Ruben Amorim to transform the club’s fortunes.
United host newly-promoted Sunderland in the Premier League on Saturday. The game appears a must-win, or there could be serious questions over Amorim’s future.
We have already covered an opinion on why Senne Lammens must start ahead of Altay Bayindir.
The Belgian is better with his reflexes than Bayindir and possesses strong ball-playing ability. It seems the perfect time for Amorim to hand him his Red Devils debut.
Alongside Lammens, we would prefer two more changes from the 3-1 league defeat at Brentford.
Diogo Dalot returned from injury in late September. He was immediately reinstated into the starting XI against the Bees at right wing-back with Amad absent and Noussair Mazraoui injured.
The Portuguese had a tough outing on his return. He won just one duel and lost possession 15 times. Aside from one quality cross, Dalot was barely an attacking threat.
Amad was back in full training earlier today after personal leave, and we believe the Ivorian should get the nod over Dalot in the right wing-back position against the Black Cats.
The 23-year-old will relish the challenge against his former club. United need attacking intent from both wing-back roles, which they should get through Amad and Patrick Dorgu.
Amad has not had the best start to the campaign, but he tends to fare better as a right wing-back than in the number 10 position, given he is a natural right-sided winger by trade.
Meanwhile, Amorim must make another big change in central defence. He should drop Harry Maguire after his high-profile error against the Bees on the road last weekend.
We would personally play Matthijs de Ligt in the middle of the back three. Leny Yoro should be reinstated on the right side due to his better ball-carrying ability and mobility compared to Maguire.
Yoro has not started since his forgettable outing in the Manchester derby, but the French wonderkid should be handed the chance to redeem himself against the Black Cats on Saturday.
Amorim must make three changes this weekend. It remains to be seen whether Lammens makes the XI alongside Amad and Yoro, who have a combined Transfermarkt value of £87 million.
