Champions League: How Juventus, Inter, Napoli, Atalanta look after MD2

Inter are sitting pretty in the automatic qualification spots after the conclusion of MD2 in the Champions League, while Napoli, Atalanta and Juventus sit between 19th and 23rd in the standings. 

Here is how the Italian sides got on in the Champions League this week. 

Champions League table updates for Juventus, Inter, Napoli, Atalanta

Atalanta were the first of the Italian sides involved in Champions League action, in the early kick-off slot against Club Brugge on Tuesday. 

La Dea came from behind courtesy of Lazar Samardzic and Mario Pasalic to claim their first Champions League victory of the season. They now sit in 22nd place as a result with three points from two matches. 

Inter were also victorious on Tuesday, defeating underdogs Slavia Prague by three goals to nil thanks to a Lautaro Martinez brace and another from wing-back Denzel Dumfries. 

The Nerazzurri are one of six sides to have won both of their first two matches in the competition this season, and are currently in fourth place on six points, behind only Bayern Munich, Real Madrid and PSG. 

Juventus had to settle for a last-minute draw away against Villarreal on Wednesday evening. They had fallen behind in the first half, but fought back through Federico Gatti and Francisco Conceicao, only for former Bianconeri defender Renato Veiga to equalise in the 90th minute. 

Juventus have now drawn four matches in a row across all competitions, including two in the Champions League, and are currently the lowest-ranked of the Italian sides in 23rd. That would still be enough to qualify for the play-off rounds, though. 

Napoli, meanwhile, currently sit in 19th place in the Champions League table after their 2-1 victory over Sporting CP on Wednesday night. 

A brace from summer signing Rasmus Hojlund ensured that Antonio Conte’s side got off the mark in Europe, following their 2-0 defeat by Manchester City last time out.
