Bryan Mbeumo sends a clear message after Bruno Fernandes penalty nightmare

0 2

Manchester United summer signing Bryan Mbeumo has asked his teammates to support captain Bruno Fernandes.

Fernandes has had a mixed start to the 2025-26 season.

The Portuguese playmaker showed nerves of steel when he buried a 97th-minute penalty to snatch victory against Burnley.

However, he missed two crucial penalty kicks against Fulham and Brentford.

Mbeumo said on his recent interview at Sky Sports: “It’s important to support him because this is what he’s doing every time.

“I think it’s normal for us to carry him as well sometimes because he gives us a lot, and it’s good for him to have us as well.”

Statistics show that Fernandes has missed the most penalties in the Premier League (6) since making his debut in the competition.

However, numbers never tell the whole story.

He has been one of the most reliable penalty takers from the spot across all competitions since moving to Old Trafford.

There should be no alarm bells yet. Handing the responsibility to another player right now could cause an unrest in the dressing room.

Fernandes remains a superb penalty taker, though recent misses came after overthinking and delaying his strikes.

To rediscover his edge, he may need to return to his trademark hop-and-wait technique to deceive the shot-stoppers.

Mbeumo is absolutely spot on with his comments to show support for the club captain.

Fernandes has carried the team for over five years now.

It is time for others to step up at a time when he is struggling to find his best form.
