Red Sox Announce Roster For Wild Card Series Vs. Yankees
For the first time since 2021, the Boston Red Sox have found their way into the postseason, and they will kick off their playoff campaign on Tuesday night when they open their three-game wild card series against the New York Yankees.
The Red Sox’s path to the postseason certainly wasn’t a straight line, as there were a lot of bumps in the road along the way. They are here now, though, and as we have seen in years past, anything can happen in the MLB Playoffs.
The road forward is going to be difficult for Boston, though. As the No. 5 seed in the American League, it will be on the road for the majority of its playoff run, which includes playing all three of its upcoming games at Yankee Stadium in New York.
Beyond that, several key players are dealing with injuries. It was already known that Roman Anthony would not be ready for the start of the postseason, but now, the No. 2 pitcher in the starting rotation, Lucas Giolito, is dealing with an elbow injury that will prevent him from pitching in this series.
Giolito’s absence added some intrigue when it comes to the overall construction of the Sox’s 26-man roster for their series against the Yanks. On Tuesday, the team officially announced its roster, with the two most notable absences being Giolito and relief pitcher Chris Murphy.
The Red Sox have learned heavily on their youth throughout the season, and that will continue in the postseason, particularly for the pitching staff. With Giolito out, Kyle Harrison, Connelly Early and Payton Tolle all could have big roles in the pitching staff as Boston attempts to power its way past New York.
Anytime the Red Sox and Yankees meet up in the postseason, it leads to great baseball, and that should be the case once again this series. First pitch for Game 1 is scheduled for 6:08 p.m. ET on Tuesday night, with Garrett Crochet taking the mound against Max Fried.
