NFL Analyst, Former Quarterback Says Patriots ‘Should Be 3-0’
The New England Patriots enter Week 4 at 1-2 for the fifth consecutive season.
ESPN analyst and retired NFL quarterback Dan Orlovsky said on Monday’s edition of “Get Up” that the Patriots “should be” undefeated.
“They should be 3-0,” Orlovsky said. “Gave the games away. Both Patriots losses you feel like were self-inflicted wounds are the reason why they lost.”
New England started the campaign with a 20-13 home loss against the Las Vegas Raiders. The Patriots defense was shredded by Raiders quarterback Geno Smith and the deep ball in the contest, allowing nine completions of 20 or more yards.
Mike Vrabel and company bounced back in Week 2, defeating the Miami Dolphins on the road, 33-27. Running back Antonio Gibson had a historic performance in the win, returning six kickoffs for 171 yards, including a 90-yard touchdown.
Gibson earned AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honors, giving New England its first Player of the Week award since the 2022 campaign.
Despite returning home in Week 3 vs. the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Patriots defense surrendered a game-winning touchdown pass from Aaron Rodgers with 2:16 left in the fourth quarter.
Even though New England’s offense outgained Pittsburgh 369 to 203, the unit committed a whopping five turnovers.
“(The Steelers) were thoroughly outplayed by New England,” Orlovsky said. “Thoroughly outplayed by the Patriots. I watched the game going, ‘How did New England lose it?'”
