Fabrizio Romano provides important update on futures of £127m Man United stars

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on the futures of Manchester United duo Harry Maguire and Andre Onana.

Maguire initially struggled to find his feet at United after his £80 million move from Leicester City, but he has turned his career around and has become a pivotal player for the club.

Since joining Man United, the England international has netted 15 goals – more than any other defender at the club.

He has impressed under manager Ruben Amorim, playing elegantly as the central centre-back in the Portuguese coach’s three-man defence.

Maguire is in the final year of his contract and has been approached by two Saudi clubs regarding a potential move, but told them he would only consider a move upon the expiration of his Man United contract.

Romano now reports via his YouTube channel that United plan to discuss a new contract with the 32-year-old.

He said: “Maguire is still seen internally, after 250 appearances with Manchester United, as a leader in the dressing room, as a very important player, and this is why his future will be a point of discussion very soon.

“Ruben Amorim really appreciates Harry Maguire’s mentality. People at the club respect what Maguire is trying to do for the young players arriving at the club now, and so, Maguire’s future will surely be a topic.”

While Maguire has been able to turn his United career around after a rocky start, Onana has not done the same, failing to justify the £47.2m Man United paid for his signature.

He lost his place in the starting line-up to Altay Bayindir this season and is now on a season-long loan with Turkish side Trabzonspor.

Romano described Onana’s Man United career as ‘almost closed’, unless ‘something extraordinary happens’.

He impressed on his debut for Trabzonspor and provided an assist to help Fatih Tekke’s side rescue a draw at home against Gaziantep on Saturday.

Onana may join the Turkish side permanently if he continues to thrive or move elsewhere.
