Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves) v Leeds United 20th September 2025 at Molineux

With it taking me a while to get going this morning as emotions were starting to get the better of me, I knew that getting to the game would be the best thing for me. As always, I thank those of you in our support who took time out today to look out for me and please note this is always gratefully appreciated. It is coming up to both the 3rd year anniversary of the death of my mum and the 1st anniversary since losing my husband so no doubt things will be up and down for a while.
Something else to look forward to is the Premiere Gala performance of Paris 75 at the Showcase Cinema in Leeds on 9th October with tickets now on sale. I will be at this one as a VIP guest due to being interviewed for this and then will also be going to the Wetherby showing on 12th October so hope to see some of you there. I can’t wait to see this because I was there in 1975 and will never forgive or forget being cheated out of our rightful trophy. It was a bittersweet time after also being in Salonika in 1973 where the referee was proven to have been bribed. It is time that this gets the showing it deserves and well done to Harvey Marcus for all the hard work that has gone into getting this into cinemas around the region.
When I did my pregame reel this morning, I said that I hoped that once we scored a goal from open play, then it would open the floodgates. Getting three goals today even though one was from a set piece, means that hopefully that has started a goal glut from now on. That said, I want to thank the Wolves fan we met in Walsall before the game as he was adamant that Leeds would win 3-1. He also said they were getting relegated by Christmas although I was saying I was sure they would raise their game to play us. He’d just come back from a holiday in Mexico but had flown from manchester airport with lots of Leeds fans who he said were everywhere. All I can say was he was spot on for the score prediction although Wolves did have chances, thankfully we had Darlow in goal to keep them out as well as they had left their shooting boots at home.
When I saw the weather from under the stand, I was dreading being on the front row getting soaked but had a pleasant surprise. Well done to Wolves for having the roof far enough out to prevent this. At one point, I had to lean forward to let people pass to get out of the row and I had visions of going head over the wall and landing on the ground in front of me. It brought back reminisces of me being in that position with 8 girls battering me at a Donny Rovers preseason friendly at Belle Vue where I did indeed end up on the side of the pitch, as the lad next to me pushed me over the wall to get me away from them. I’m glad to say I did stay in the stand today thankfully.
Team: Darlow, Ampadu, Gudmundsson, Bogle, Rodon, Struijk, Aaronson, Okafor, Calvert-Lewin, Stach, Longstaff.
Subs: Harrison for Okafor (70), Justin for Bogle (injured 83), Tanaka for Longstaff (83), Gruev for Aaronson (90), Nmecha for Calvert-Lewin (90).
Leeds won the game 3-1 with Calvert-Lewin (31) equalising for Leeds before taking the lead with goals from a free kick by Stach (39) and Okafor (45). All three goals were their first ones for the club.
Attendance: 30,807, 3,012 Leeds fans.
Referee: Anthony Taylor.
Booked: Bogle.
The first 30 minutes were rather painful to watch when we looked like trapped rabbits in the headlights at times. We had started well and come close to scoring only for Wolves to counterattack by running through the middle and smash the ball into the net past Darlow. That’s when we looked vulnerable for the next 20 minutes before regaining our composure. It may have only been my view, but it felt like our team had the wrong boots on for the heavy rain. Suddenly just as it looked like we were not in the game, we turned defence into attack for an equaliser. A fantastic cross by Bogle into the middle saw Calvert-Lewin head the ball from the penalty spot that looped over their keeper into the net. When Leeds won a free kick outside the box a few minutes later it took ages before the referee let the ball be kicked. I said I wanted it hitting straight into the bottom corner of the goal as we had a free kick specialist now, so we had no excuses not to score from it. Stach duly unleashed a fantastic free kick that shot into the top corner of the goal to put us into the lead. Well obviously, I wasn’t going to argue about which part of the goal it ended up in, but it was good to see us score directly from a free kick. That wasn’t it either, because just before half time we got a third when Stach intercepted a Wolves ball and put Okafor through to score as the Leeds fans went wild. Wolves could have equalised just before that, but Darlow made the save to keep them out.
The second half saw Wolves come out on the attack as Darlow was forced to make a save then two more as one thankfully came off Longstaff taking the the sting out of the ball and tipping another attempt over the bar. We came close to a fourth after a great run by Gudmundsson into the box saw his cross diverted away from both Aaronson and Calvert-Lewin then cleared. Darlow caught the ball at the second attempt preventing Wolves from getting back into the game but as the whistle blew, it was the Leeds fans celebrating a good win and a precious three points to move up the table. The only thing that wasn’t good was Bogle going off injured but hopefully this won’t be two bad an injury. With two home matches coming up the win has taken a bit of pressure off by scoring from open play but as always, we need to give 100% in every game we play. See you there, LUFC – Marching on Together!
