How Alex Bregman Responded To Red Sox’s Rough Rivalry Loss

Alex Bregman and the Boston Red Sox must rebound from a series-opening loss to the New York Yankees.

Boston began the three-game set with a 4-1 loss at Fenway Park. The Red Sox finished with two hits, none against Yankees starter Luis Gil through six innings.

After the game, via NESN’s coverage, Bregman told reporters that they must quickly move on from Friday’s loss.

“You flush tonight and you focus on the next pitch,” Bregman said. “We’ve been talking about that for the last month or so here down this playoff push. You got to focus on the next pitch; that’s the most important one. Everyone’s mentality is in a good spot.”

Bregman drew one of Boston’s five walks on Friday. The All-Star third baseman took solace in the offense maintaining a disciplined approach, which should eventually yield better results.

“That’s one of the keys for our offense is staying in the strike zone and making sure we swing at strikes,” Bregman said. “I feel like we’re a few big hits away, and it just didn’t come through tonight.”

The Red Sox rank eighth in team OPS this season, but they’ve plated 32 runs in eight games since losing Roman Anthony to an oblique injury. The rookie’s absence has coincided with a slump from Bregman, who’s batting .214/.283/.286 with no home runs in September.

Despite losing ground on the Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays on Friday, the Red Sox can still finish the weekend above the Yankees in the standings with two wins. Brayan Bello will start Saturday’s game for Boston at 4:10 p.m. ET.
