Career So Far: Jessica Fitzgerald

0 19

Jessica Fitzgerald joins Hibernian Women with great acclaim, having already been crowned an Irish Premier Division champion and named PFA Ireland Young Player of the Year.

The young midfielder made her senior debut for Irish club Peamount United in a 7-0 victory over Treaty United in July 2022, aged 16.

After making four appearances in her maiden season, scoring once, Fitzgerald quickly became a key player for the Peas during the 2023 campaign – in which she anchored the midfield as the County Dublin club soared to League of Ireland Premier Division glory.

Fitzgerald would earn great praise, at just 17 years old, for her role in the title success as she starred in midfield throughout the campaign – even scoring twice on the final day versus Sligo Rovers in a 6-1 thrashing.

Her standout performances throughout the season merited awards, with the midfielder picking up the August/September 2023 Premier Division Player of the Month award, before later being named the 2023 PFA Ireland Young Player of the Year.

The next season, the young talent would compete in the UEFA Women’s Champions League for the first time.

She would play 100 minutes as Peamount United defeated Belarusian outfit Dinamo BSUPC 2-1 after extra-time to secure passage to the first qualifying round final, before starting once more as the Peas were edged out the competition by Croatian champions Osijek.

In May 2025, Fitzgerald was also nominated by the FAI for their Women’s Under-19s International Player of the Year following her key performances for her nation’s U19s squad.

Formerly a leading Republic of Ireland Under-17s star, Fitzgerald has since moved on to become a regular starter in the Irish Under-19s squad.

She started all six of Ireland’s UEFA U19 Euro 2024 qualifiers – while also scoring twice in her nation’s first qualifying campaign victory versus the Faroe Islands – as the Girls in Green earned one of the eight lucrative spots in the tournament.

Fitzgerald would go on to start all three of the Republic of Ireland’s U19 Euro 2024 matches in Lithuania, as they earned a 0-0 draw versus Spain before losing narrowly to Germany and the Netherlands in the group stage.

The midfielder was also been called up to the Ireland senior squad camp for the first time in February 2024 ahead of friendly matches versus Italy and Wales.
