Longtime Patriots DE Suffered Season-Ending Injury In Commanders Game
After missing just six games throughout his long Patriots career, Deatrich Wise Jr. reportedly will miss at least 15 for the Commanders.
Wise suffered a season-ending quad injury during Washington’s road loss to the Green Bay Packers on Thursday night, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. The veteran defensive end suffered the injury while attempting to block a field goal attempt.

Shortly after Schefter reported the update, Wise used Instagram to send a message to his supporters.
“I’m truly grateful for all the love, prayers, and support I’ve received,” Wise wrote. “This was an unfortunate experience, but when you give so much to the game and do everything you can to improve for yourself and for your team’s success, it can feel like there’s a lot to play for. When you stop, it can feel like everything around you stops too.
“But I know the best healer (prayer emoji). God only puts us through what we can handle, and every challenge carries a lesson. Out of every test comes growth, shaping us into who we need to become to accomplish the goals we set from the start. I’m on a path to becoming the highest version of myself. And on the bright side I get to spend on time with my family and my sons (happy face emoji).”
Wise, 31, was selected by the Patriots in the fourth round of the 2017 NFL Draft. He spent eight seasons in New England, racking up 34 sacks while winning one Super Bowl and serving as a defensive captain.
Wise signed a one-year, $3.25 million contract with Washington last offseason and is a pending free agent.
