Man Utd could arrange midweek European games as finance-boosting move mooted
Manchester United could arrange to play lucrative midweek friendlies to boost their finances after missing out on European football, according to the Sun.
The Red Devils finished 15th in the Premier League last season and also lost the final of the Europa League to Tottenham Hotspur, failing to qualify for any continental competition as a result.
Man United have also been eliminated from the Carabao Cup after losing to League Two club Grimsby Town in the second round last month.
The Old Trafford club have just one midweek fixture before Christmas – the home fixture against West Ham United on December 3.
They have enough days in between Premier League games and could look to keep their sharpness and make money by playing other European clubs who also failed to qualify for any of the three continental competitions.
The likes of AC Milan, RB Leipzig, Lazio and Sevilla are also without European engagements, and Man United could arrange friendly matches with them.
The Red Devils made around £15 million during their pre-season tours of Asia and the US in the summer, and similar arrangements could be made with other clubs to play outside Europe during the season.
Man United head coach Ruben Amorim has been planning in-season bonding trips during their extra time off, and playing friendly games for much-needed extra cash could be considered too.
However, such a plan comes with its disadvantages as players would be at risk of getting injured after travelling for games.
Having enough time to rest in between league games before joining the FA Cup in the third round in January could do the Red Devils the world of good.
They have the chance to impress in the Premier League and keep their squad in pristine conditions while the top clubs struggle with the fatigue which comes with European football.
