Manchester City step up pursuit of Tino Livramento
Manchester City are preparing to ramp up their efforts to sign Newcastle United defender Tino Livramento, with Pep Guardiola identifying the versatile full-back as a key long-term target.
According to Football Insider, City have placed Livramento high on their shortlist as they look for a natural successor to Kyle Walker, who departed for Burnley this summer. At just 22, the Newcastle man is highly regarded for his pace, defensive intelligence, and ability to operate on both flanks — a profile that fits seamlessly into Guardiola’s tactical system.
Newcastle United’s stance on Livramento
Newcastle fought hard over the summer to keep hold of their prized assets, including Bruno Guimaraes, Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon, and Livramento. While the Magpies added reinforcements late in the window, they resisted all interest in their core players, especially Livramento, who has quickly become a fan favourite at St James’ Park.
The Magpies reportedly placed a steep price tag on the young defender to fend off suitors. Even so, Manchester City remain undeterred and are expected to test Newcastle’s resolve in upcoming windows.
A battle for the future
While Newcastle are unlikely to sanction a January sale, City could return with a formal approach in the summer. Much will depend on whether Newcastle succeed in tying Livramento down to a new long-term contract, a move that would significantly complicate Guardiola’s plans.
For now, Manchester City remain determined. Guardiola views Livramento as the perfect fit for his evolving defence, and the Premier League champions are unlikely to let go of their pursuit without a serious fight.
