Report: Patriots Among Teams That Called On Micah Parsons Deal

Senior NFL insider Dianna Russini of The Athletic reported on Saturday morning that the New England Patriots were among the teams that inquired about a potential Micah Parsons trade in August.

The Dallas Cowboys eventually traded the Pro Bowl linebacker to the Green Bay Packers, but Russini provided further details leading up to the blockbuster.

Per Russini’s report, Parsons “had two teams on his mind” ahead of the deal — the Packers and Philadelphia Eagles.

“The Colts, Panthers, Bills, and Patriots all made calls and were told the price: two first-round picks, a significant player, and, of course, a record-setting contract,” she wrote. “As for everyone else? Potential suitors like the Vikings, Browns, Broncos, Texans, Bengals, Chiefs, Commanders, 49ers, Titans, and Rams never engaged. The timing, the haul, and the money were simply too much.”

Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel was asked recently about the team’s rumored pursuit of the 2021 first-round pick and said that New England was never close to landing Parsons.

“We continue to have conversations about all players that are available. … but that wasn’t something that we really invested a lot of time or resources in,” Vrabel said on WEEI’s “Greg Hill Show,” as transcribed by ESPN’s Mike Reiss.

Parsons and the Packers host the Detroit Lions in Week 1 on Sunday, while the Patriots welcome the Las Vegas Raiders to Gillette Stadium.
