29 G/A star tipped to attract Liverpool, Arsenal & Man United transfer bids
Aston Villa attacking midfielder Morgan Rogers has been tipped to attract transfer bids from the likes of Liverpool and Arsenal if he carries on performing as well as he has.
The England international has just won the PFA Young Player of the Year prize, following a superb campaign last term in which he hit 14 goals and 15 assists.
Writing in his exclusive CaughtOffside column, former Villa man Stan Collymore made it clear that he’d take Rogers in a heartbeat if he were in charge of transfers at a top club.
The pundit says he can see Rogers being a target for the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City, and that Villa should be prepared for offers for him.
Morgan Rogers transfer warning from Stan Collymore
Discussing Rogers’ future after his PFA award, Collymore talked up the possibility of bigger clubs bidding for the 23-year-old, perhaps next summer.
“I worry a little bit about Morgan Rogers, because I think that players get their head turned very quickly,” Collymore said.
“Although he’s a Midlands lad, he’s used to moving around to different clubs. So he’s one of those players that will go where he feels that he can achieve things. And there’s nothing wrong with that.”
He added: “I don’t think, at this point, a club will come in with a bid for Rogers before the transfer window. But this time next year, if he continues the trajectory that he’s on and starts to add more goals and more assists, then it’s not going to be a surprise if Arsenal, Man United, Man City or even Liverpool make a move.
“Villa need to do whatever they can do now to safeguard that asset, because if I was one of the top four or five teams, I would take Morgan Rogers in a heartbeat.”
Morgan Rogers has been linked with Tottenham
There’s already growing talk of Tottenham being interested in Rogers, as per the Independent.
Spurs could certainly do well to land Rogers after the injury to James Maddison, and with Arsenal hijacking their move for Eberechi Eze.
Still, Collymore is probably right that Rogers will also have the chance to go to an even bigger club at some point.
It might be worth Rogers waiting a little longer for someone like Liverpool or Arsenal to come in for him, rather than going to Spurs.
