Ben Jacobs explains Man United’s stance on Baleba alternative and €41m-rated goalkeeper

Manchester United has shown intent on signing a midfielder and a goalkeeper this summer and could still do so before the window closes.

United exlpored a deal for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, but the club have withdrawn their interest, due to the Seagulls’ refusal to sell him and the cost of a possible deal.

The Manchester outfit are now considering alternatives and have been linked to Sevilla star Lucien Agoume.

Agoume is not pushing for a move, but Sevilla could sanction his exit before the end of the transfer window, given their financial struggles.

Reports emerged from Spain earlier this week that Man United were negotiating with Sevilla for Agoume.

However, journalist Ben Jacobs via The United Stand claims the Red Devils are not in talks with Sevilla for the Frenchman.

“I’m not sure there’s a great deal developing. The player is available for €25m or €30m”.

“I’m certainly not under the impression at this stage anyway that anything is particularly advanced; however, there’s 10 days left of the window and it can go from 0 to 100 very quickly”

The frailty in the goalkeeping department was laid bare in the Premier League loss to Arsenal on Sunday, with Altay Bayindir failing to deal with a corner-kick that led to Arsenal’s goal.

United have been linked with several goalkeepers, but Jacobs claims that they are not actively pursuing a deal for one. He added that Royal Antwerp’s Senne Lammens would be at the top of the list if they were to sign one.

“The goalkeeper situation is quiet, and Manchester United sources are insisting that maybe no goalkeeper comes. And if one comes, it might be a young one in Senne Lammens.”

Lammens was one of the best goalkeepers in the Belgian top-flight last term and has been linked with United since January.

Antwerp have valued the Belgian goalkeeper at €41m, making it financially challenging for Man United to complete a deal without player sales.
