KU's football stadium to have four times more concessions

TOPEKA (KSNT) – The University of Kansas's new football stadium will feature more concession options than ever before, including some local favorites.

The reimagined David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium is set to open on Aug. 23 and fans will get to enjoy some of their favorite local food and drinks, according to a press release from KU Athletics. Some of the big names to be included are Johnny's Tavern, Tiki Taco, Bigg's and Jack Stack BBQ, Princeton Popcorn, Uplift Coffee and plenty of drinking options from Boulevard Brewing.

Here is the full list of concessions partners, per a KU Athletics:

Johnny's Tavern: Johnny's Tavern is synonymous with Kansas Athletics. It's the site of Hawk Talk with Head Football Coach Lance Leipold and Head Basketball Coach Bill Self. With 13 locations throughout the area, including the original in North Lawrence, Johnny's has been a fixture of northeast Kansas since 1953. They will have featured food items in The Patio premium area as well as main concourse concession offerings. Its famous Wilson's sauce will be served throughout the stadium.

Tiki Taco: Tiki Taco is a Tex-Mex style restaurant that has been expanding since 2017. Known for its deep menu that features tacos, burritos, bowls, nachos and more. The chain hopes to double their location count in the next year.

Bigg's BBQ: Voted "Best BBQ" of Lawrence for nine straight years, Bigg's has been serving up a wide variety of BBQ, including ribs, chicken, pork, brisket, sausage, ham, pork belly and more since 2004. Bigg's in unique in the local BBQ scene in that they allow the seasonings and hickory smoked flavor to take precedent over the BBQ sauce. From the Bigg's Facebook page, "It is better to have burnt and lost, then never to have barbecued at all."

Princeton Popcorn: Located in Princeton, Kansas, Princeton Popcorn Company was founded by a first-generation farmer and produces mushroom popcorn, with a "One Farmer, One Field" process which allows for consistent quality. Featuring a variety of flavors, Princeton Popcorn will be available throughout the stadium.

Chick-fil-A: Long-time KU Athletics partners, Chick-fil-A, will be available for Jayhawk fans to enjoy. Chick-fil-A has one location in Lawrence on Iowa Street.

Serendipity Ice Cream: Serendipity will be a popular stop for KU fans looking to enjoy a sweet treat during the game. From St. Louis, Missouri, Serendipity ice creams and sorbets are made with the finest ingredients available and offers a wide range of flavors.

Boulevard Brewing Company: Founded in 1989, Boulevard Brewing Company is the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest. With its brewery located in Kansas City, Boulevard has a wide list of craft beers and seltzers that are distributed across the country. Founder John McDonald is a 1976 University of Kansas graduate.

Uplift Coffee: With two locations in Lawrence and one in Baldwin City, Uplift produces a variety of coffees, cold brews, matcha, lattes, espresso and more. Their goal is to bring you the best coffee form the best coffee farms that highlight the finest quality beans and relationships.

National beverage partners include: Modelo, Anheuser-Busch, Surfside Cocktails, Jim Beam and Pepsi.
