Guglielmo Vicario issues warning to Tottenham’s Champions League opponents

0 5

As Tottenham Hotspur prepare to taste Champions League football again after a two-year gap, Guglielmo Vicario has made a bold claim about what the Lilywhites will be looking to do in Europe this season.

For the first time in 17 seasons, Tottenham Hotspur enter the new season as the defending champions of a trophy, but they will not get a chance to defend their Europa League title.

Winning the competition has given the club a place in Europe’s premier club competition, and there is no doubt that the rigours of the tournament will test the Tottenham squad, especially given the new, extended format of the Champions League.

Spurs appear to be going into the season with plenty of confidence, with Thomas Frank insisting that he wants Tottenham to compete on all four fronts.

Guglielmo Vicario says Tottenham will be ‘a thorn’ for their Champions League opponents

Vicario is one of several players in the Tottenham squad who will be getting their first taste of the Champions League, and the goalkeeper is confident that the Lilywhites will be a force in the tournament.

The Italy international admitted that Spurs want to improve from their showing in the Premier League last season and establish themselves among the big sides.

When asked about the upcoming Champions League campaign, Vicario told Tuttomercatoweb: “Last year in the league, things didn’t go as we wanted. We need to improve and establish ourselves among the big teams. The Champions League will be tough, but we’re ready.

“For many, it will be the first time, including myself. We want to be a thorn in everyone’s side. Football is unpredictable, and we want to be there until the end.”

Thomas Frank sets his sights on winning another European trophy

Before the Spurs players can start thinking about the Champions League campaign or even the new Premier League season, there is a small matter of the Super Cup final.

Thomas Frank has said that his side can beat PSG in the Super Cup clash, which will make it two European honours in the space of months for the club.

Beating PSG will give Dane the distinction of having won silverware in his first competitive game in charge of Tottenham and would undoubtedly boost the side’s confidence going into the campaign.
