MLB Insider Admits He Was ‘Too Harsh’ On Red Sox After Deadline
The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal is walking back some of his criticisms of the Boston Red Sox.
Rosenthal was perhaps the most aggressively pessimistic member of the media after the club made marginal upgrades at the trade deadline last Thursday, calling the entire thing an “epic fail” and sharing some particularly negative commentary regarding their reported pursuit of Minnesota Twins right-hander Joe Ryan.
It’s a bit much looking back, which led to the longtime journalist making something of a retraction on Tuesday.
“All right, I might have been too harsh when I said on my ‘Fair Territory’ show that the Boston Red Sox’s pursuits of Twins right-hander Joe Ryan was ‘feeble at best’ and that they didn’t ‘come at (the Twins) hard,'” Rosenthal wrote.
The Red Sox still didn’t blow anyone away with their offer, as Rosenthal stated there was zero movement in involving the likes of Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu and Roman Anthony in the discussions. Boston thought a prospect package would be enough, and evidently, it was not.
Rosenthal still didn’t need to go scorched earth, especially considering the fact we’ve since heard that some previous — and inherently negative — reports were not true.
