However, his appalling performances left everyone disappointed. He scored just four goals in 32 Premier League games.

His book value currently stands at £43m, but United seemingly have lost patience with the centre-forward and are ready to sell him at a loss.

Limited service and a struggling United side did not allow Hojlund to thrive, but he was also guilty of squandering big chances.

He cut an isolated figure up top in several games, highlighting his lack of connection with other attackers.

The former Atalanta striker has made it clear publicly that he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

He netted a goal in United’s 4-1 win over AFC Bournemouth in the friendly game on Wednesday.

He insisted he is ready to fight for his place even if the club sign a new striker.

However, the Red Devils have to sell a few players to remain compliant with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.
