Sky Sports - Alexander Isak responds to Man Utd as Red Devils now want NUFC star
Manchester United have recently attempted to sign wantaway Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, making enquiries about what it would take to recruit him some days ago, according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg.
However, the Sweden international is not interested in joining the Red Devils and has turned them down as he only wants to move to Liverpool.
Man United want a new number 9 heading into 2025-26 and are hoping to sign RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko, while his Aston Villa counterpart Ollie Watkins is also on their radar.
Isak was never a realistic target for the Old Trafford club this summer, but it appeared the Red Devils wanted to test the waters and see if he would be keen on a move.
The 25-year-old ended last term with 23 goals and six assists in 34 Premier League games after notching 21 goals in 30 league appearances in 2023-24.
Man United could really do with such a striker in the final third having signed Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha this summer, but they will not be getting the Newcastle star and will need to look elsewhere.
Liverpool have seen their £120 million bid rejected by the Magpies, but he has agreed personal terms with the Reds and is hoping a move materialises.
Joining the Red Devils could have appealed to Isak if they were playing in the Champions League next season, but Amorim and his men missed out on qualifying for the elite European competition after losing the final of the Europa League to Tottenham Hotspur last season.
United are not playing on the continent next season, and while it did not dissuade the likes of Cunha and Mbeumo, other targets could have their concerns given how performances in a competition like the Champions League influence selection at national team level.
