22yo star makes bold claim as Man Utd chase £70m transfer
Manchester United are heavily tipped to make a blockbuster transfer swoop for RB Leipzig forward Benjamin Sesko.
Rasmus Hojlund could find himself pushed down the pecking order or even out the exit door if United strike a deal with the Bundesliga outfit.
Speaking to the media after scoring a goal in United’s 4-1 win over AFC Bournemouth in the friendly game on Wednesday, Hojlund revealed that he wants to stay and fight for his place.
He said (via The Athletic): “I think my plan is very clear and that is for me to stay and fight for my spot, whatever happens.
“Competition is fine with me, it sharpens me. I’m more than ready. I’m feeling sharp so I’m welcoming everything that comes.”
Hojlund bagged only four Premier League goals despite featuring 32 times last campaign.
His deputy Joshua Zirkzee also failed to find form as a number nine, forcing Amorim to bolster the attack this summer.
Hojlund admitted that he has yet to show his best to United supporters.
He said: “I’m still very young. I think people forget that sometimes. I’m only 22.
“I’m starting to develop and become even better in the basics. Now it’s just about for me to sharpen myself and I’ve done very well in the pre-season so far.”
With no European football on the horizon, United’s reduced schedule will make it tricky for Amorim to juggle minutes among three centre-forwards.
One of Hojlund and Zirkzee could be sold to balance the books, as United will have to pay in excess of £70 million to sign Sesko.
The Red Devils have already invested a hefty £130m in new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo this window.
The club are also looking to permanently sell Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho and Tyrell Malacia.
