Not Sesko: Man United 'made an enquiry' about £34.5m star, could renew their interest
Manchester United could be lining up a blockbuster move for a new goalkeeper this summer.
According to The Telegraph, Man United made an enquiry about Paris Saint-Germain star Gianluigi Donnarumma earlier in the summer.
PSG are edging closer to signing goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier from Lille, and they are thought to be braced for United to renew their interest in Donnarumma once that deal is complete.
Donnarumma has 12 months left on his contract, and the European champions are open to selling if the right bid comes in.
United could make a late move for Donnarumma
The Red Devils replaced David de Gea with Andre Onana in the summer of 2023.
Onana was considered a modern goalkeeper who would help the side play out from the back with his clever, progressive passing.
Over the last two years, the Cameroon international has made several high-profile errors and has rarely shown composure with the ball at his feet.
United clearly need an upgrade and Donnarumma is certainly one of the best in the world.
The 26-year-old delivered sensational performances as PSG clinched both the league title and the coveted UEFA Champions League.
Having the £34.5 million star between the sticks would not only raise standards but also inject calmness and confidence into a shaky United backline.
We believe any attempt to sign Donnarumma will only take place if Onana is deemed surplus to requirements.
It would be difficult for the Red Devils to keep both Donnarumma and Onana on their books, especially after spending around £130m on Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.
They are now prioritising a transfer swoop for RB Leipzig star striker Benjamin Sesko.
With Sesko now the top striker target, United’s spending could soar past £200 million if they seal that deal.
Donnarumma could be a dream goalkeeper for the Red Devils but the potential departures of Onana, Alejandro Garnacho and Antony could hold the key to his transfer.
