Man Utd now open talks to sign £34m star alongside Chelsea & Man City - report
Manchester United could pursue a new goalkeeper during the ongoing transfer window.
The Red Devils have had a good summer with a couple of high-profile acquisitions.
Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo should provide an upgrade in the attacking department.
A new shot-stopper could be signed too, and Sports Zone claim that the Red Devils have made contact with Paris Saint-Germain over the availability of Gianluigi Donnarumma.
The 26-year-old has entered the last year of his contract, and it is almost certain that he won’t put pen to paper on a fresh deal. PSG are close to signing Lille goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier as his successor.
Chelsea and Manchester City have also made enquiries for Donnarumma, while Al-Ittihad and Galatasaray have offered him a massive salary of €20 million (£17.2m) per year.
Donnarumma would be an upgrade on Andre Onana
The AC Milan graduate has developed into one of the best goalkeepers in world football. He has cut down on enforced errors and played a big part in PSG’s Champions League glory last term.
He could be up for a new challenge away from Les Parisiens. A move to the Premier League could be hard to turn down, and United could be tempted to make a late approach if Andre Onana departs.
Onana has been recovering from a hamstring injury over the past few weeks, but he could be fit ahead of the Premier League curtain-raiser against Arsenal at Old Trafford in mid-August.
In our view, United may need to secure his departure to land the services of Donnarumma. The Italian has exceptional reflexes between the sticks and can also make regular high claims.
He has also improved drastically with his distribution from the back. He had a passing accuracy of 85 percent in Ligue 1 last term and 74 percent during the Champions League campaign.
Donnarumma’s presence would boost United’s prospects of qualifying for Europe. He is presently on £212,000 per week, and personal terms could be agreed with a small pay rise.
He is valued at £34 million by Transfermarkt. PSG could hold out for a similar sum with his contract expiring next summer. United could be prepared to pay the fee with add-ons.
