Gray: The Fans Will Be Our Extra Man
David Gray emphasised the important role the Hibernian FC supporters will play as his side take on FC Midtjylland in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.
There will be over 18,500 home supporters inside Easter Road, which would break a new Club record home attendance since the Stadium was redeveloped in the 1990s and early 2000s.
The travelling Hibs fans made a huge impact in Denmark last weekend, and Gray has urged them to be right behind the team from the very first second on Thursday evening.
“We want to keep building momentum and the sold-out crowd is a reflection of how well everyone is doing. The fans will play a massive part in the game.
“We need to make sure we get the crowd right behind us, and that’ll naturally happen because of the occasion, and the number of the fans inside the stadium. We will need them from the very first second. They will be the extra man.
“They’re going to be so important, they always are. They play a massive part. They’ve been magnificent ever since I joined the Football Club to be honest.”
David Gray’s side put in an excellent performance in Denmark a week ago, but our Head Coach is under no illusions how difficult the match is going to be.
“I’m really looking forward to the game and I can clearly sense the players are too after the first leg.
“Belief was a word that I used a lot before the first leg because we had to believe we could go over there and get a result. If people weren’t believing before it, they certainly will be after it.
“It’s half-time in the tie, we know that, and just because we did well in the first leg, it doesn’t make the second leg any easier. We constantly remind the players of that.
“These occasions and opportunities don’t come around all the time. This a reward from last season, a game to look forward to, and a game everyone should be looking forward too.”
